OK so I love the new Netflix series Bridgerton for many reasons not just for the Duke 🥰, but also about the commentary that it addressed on the role of women in society. From the perspective of a mother, a new wife, a widow, a servant, they share the demands and limited options that women had then and still even today.
If you want to continue to explore this topic, I highly recommend Girls Like Us.
It’s the story that many women share and many women don’t such as the choices they have to make because of societal expectations and demands as told from the voices of three different characters.

If I was a high school teacher, I would hands down use this book as a conversation starter and discussion piece.

Couldn’t go to church so I had church at home. I needed this energy to go into the new year with and boy did Channing pack this small book with every feeling a black middle class child like me growing up in the 80s and 90s felt . I challenge both black and white educators to READ THIS BOOK. It’s raw and honest and unnerving but no great growth happens easily.

Let me take a moment to say thank you to my followers who are here for my thoughts and ideas and passion and dedication to literacy, technology, and to students- primarily to students of color. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2020 was a vocal year that needed to be heard and you chose to listen to the things I've said about representation and making ALL students feel like they matter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is still work to be done. My hope is that we all continue to use our platforms to make an impact in 2021 and beyond.
